MDAM Vintage (originally known as Make Do and Mend) was founded by Sarah Robins in 2013.
Our mission… to show the world that buying vintage and secondhand clothing, and repairing and rewearing the clothes that already exist on this planet, is the only way to be truly sustainable in fashion. We not only aim to do this by showing you how amazing, accessible and wearable vintage and second hand fashion is, but also build a community of likeminded people who will share skills and knowledge and champion the slow fashion movement.
Sarah’s love of vintage clothing started in her school days when she would scour the local charity and antique shops for unique fashion pieces. Spending the next 10 years in Theatrical Costume in both London’s West End and touring the world, she continued to retain this love and passion for vintage, building up a huge collection of clothing. Shortly after, Sarah made the decision to follow her dream of starting a vintage business. It was on this day that MDAM Vintage was founded.
Sarah began selling her collection at vintage and makers markets across London. Less than two year’s later MDAM Vintage opened its first physical store, at the newly launched Pop Brixton, South London. Now, Sarah had the perfect location to not just sell vintage, but also champion the slow fashion movement to rewear, reuse and recycle the clothes in existence… to reduce textile waste and landfill…and live by the motto of ‘Make Do and Mend’, something the planet needs now more than ever. Expanding the business to reflect this ethos, Sarah spent the next five years at Pop Brixton selling all things vintage, whilst also running second-hand makers markets, sewing workshops, alterations and the hugely popular Brixton Vintage Kilo Sale.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the temporary closure of Pop Brixton and MDAM Vintage’s shop. Deciding that the best way to continue sharing her love of vintage would be online, the physical shop was closed for good in the summer of 2020 and the future of the business - mdamvintage.com – was born!
As with the original shop, all items are sourced and handpicked by Sarah. Alongside this will sit handmade reworked items from vintage fabric; vintage jewellery, shoes and accessories; plus a selection of small local brands who focus on sustainability and recycling.
Thank you for visiting mdamvintage.com. We look forward to bringing you so much more in the way of vintage over the coming months.
